The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
