New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn commented. “His family, they’re in good spirits and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.

“Don’t know just yet,” he added. “But I will say this, hearing him speak, his attitude was encouraging. Once more, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities shared video stills Monday of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning near the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was taken to a medical center after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since the news broke. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a baby.

“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn remarked. “And I’m thinking about his wife, worrying about his newborn and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive this season, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder issue that required surgery.

Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in March and was anticipated to become a key part of an improved special teams group under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a practice session on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “In fact, he comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, a Texas native, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of UT in 2019. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals in last year and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with New York in March.
