A female individual previously residing at a female recovery facility in California allegedly took a stolen van and engaged in a prolonged police chase culminating with her traveling across the border into the nation of Mexico on Monday.

Auto Theft Discovered from Sober Living Home

As stated in a police announcement, a second woman, the owner of the vehicle, 45, reported that her gray minivan from 2004 was missing, along with her vehicle key. The owner, who operates two female recovery residences, identified the alleged thief as one of the residents at Diana’s House Sober Living, located approximately an hour’s drive of LA.

“The keys were taken from my manager’s handbag. I arrived just as it was happening,” Walters stated, noting that the minivan is used for the sobriety home’s tasks.

High-Speed Pursuit Unfolds Across Multiple Counties

Officials located the stolen vehicle about 19 kilometers to the north in a nearby city, where they tried to pull the vehicle over, but the suspect did not comply and accelerated rapidly. She reached speeds of about 145km/h on the State Route 118 until the chase proceeded into Los Angeles county. At that point, Ventura county authorities handed over the pursuit to the CHP once Wilson merged onto the 405 freeway traveling southbound.

“This incident is very unique in the sense of the traffic conditions enabling drivers to continue to remain on the freeway and extend this pursuit,” said a public information officer from the local law enforcement agency.

Wilson allegedly avoided all the tire-deflation devices tossed on the roadway by authorities, as seen in footage from above.

Cross-Border Escape and Aftermath

The pursuit finally arrived at the international border by 1.30pm, prompting the CHP to terminate the chase due to legal limitations.

Walters indicated on the following day that the minivan was located in Tijuana, Mexico and that she was coordinating with the authorities to retrieve it.

“Ultimately, I’m not concerned with the car,” she said. “I’m relieved knowing she wasn’t hurt. The minivan is easily substituted.”

Owner’s Perspective

The sober living home owner, who has operated Diana’s House Sober Living since October 2024, acknowledges that the path to recovery from addiction and trauma is often non-linear.

“This represents a mental health and addiction emergency,” Walters emphasized. “We need additional assistance. We need more resources for those that are struggling.”

“Recovery isn’t always pretty,” she added.
